Thank you parents for supporting and volunteering your time to our students and school. Our community is a family where laughing, learning, encouragement, and involvement happens everyday! The only way to express our gratitude to all of you is to simply say Thank you!

 

Congratulations to Ting Li. She was selected as one of the 723 semifinalists to advance to the final round of the 2017 U.S. Presidential Scholars competition. There were nearly 3.5 million high school seniors who entered this competition!

 

National Chinese, French and Spanish Honor Societies held their Induction Ceremony on April 20th – Congratulations!

 

Centennial It's Academic Club and Team qualified five teams to the final National Tournament of NHBB (National History Bowl and Bee) in Crystal City, VA over the April 21-23 weekend. This final tournament attracted the top 260 teams from around the country.

The Varsity A Team came in 13th in the nation!

Varsity A Roster: Siri Neerchal (senior, captain, Christopher Cha (senior), Rohan Laljani (senior), Jakob Boeye (junior) 

The Varsity B Team won a plaque.

Varsity B Roster: Emmy Alme (junior, captain), Yashas Lokesh (senior), Jack Cole (junior), Fayyaz Zaidi (junior) 

Our club provided 13 moderators for the tournament including the following students:  Jason Li, Niki Gooya, Swadhin Nalubola, Max Shen, Mayur Krishna, and Kieran Newell.

This year we had 13 students compete at the FBLA State Leadership Conference in Hunt Valley.  Many finished in the top 10 in the respective competitions.  Some standouts were: the Entrepreneurship team of Brian Boone, Jordan Fields and Andrew Tseng who placed fourth in the state, and David Alyaian who placed third in the state in Cybersecurity.

 

Fifteen Biology Honors students attended the Howard County Watershed Summit on April 25th at The Howard County Conservancy. Zach Kaminski and Jackie Sterenburg presented Centennial's school yard and stream data analysis to the attendees.  Students had a chance to converse with county dignitaries about ways to advocate for cleaner water and a healthy watershed following the presentations.  

 

Centennial High School Wingspan received Second Place (nationally) by the Scholastic Newspaper Awards 2017 American Scholastic Press Association. Congratulations!

 

The County Executive Kittleman will be declaring May 1st as ZACHING DAY. It is a very exciting day and we are happy that the county has worked with the foundation for this great cause. We would like to have anyone who has a Zaching shirt to wear it on May 1st, which is also Zach’s birthday.  There is more information on the video link below including how to get a Zaching Day shirt.

Students in the G/T Intern/Mentor and Independent Research program will be sharing their research and projects. Tuesday, 5/2 7-8:30 in the cafeteria.

 

Please take the time to speak your son/daughter about making good choices…not to be impulsive and to think before he/she acts.
