Congratulations to the Class of 2017… our 40th graduating class. They continue our Commitment to Excellence and they raise the bar even higher! 99% of the Class of 2017 will be attending college – this is an absolutely amazing high percentage and the highest percentage we ever had at Centennial!

 

On Saturday May 20th, Centennial (Baltimore Metro Champion) played against the DC Champion Montgomery Blair and the Central Virginia champion. We were tied with Blair with 20 seconds left and wound up in second place: Blair 555, Centennial 515, Kettle Run 365.  Our total winnings were $5,750 and Giant Food will honor us with a catered dinner and trophy on June 7th. Sean Li performed as a soloist with the Columbia Orchestra on Saturday, May 20th. He is the Winner of the 2017 Young Artist Competition!

 

Our Science Olympiad Team traveled to Ohio for Nationals… We came in 36th overall among 58 high schools and took a 4th place showing in Chemistry. Congratulations!

 

Amelia Betzer is a recipient of the 2017 PTA Council Howard County Teacher Education Scholarship $1,000.00. Congratulations!

 

Congratulations to our Tennis Team…Ram Kotnana won the regional boys singles title, while William Liu and Peter Ho placed second in boys’ doubles and Andy Tseng and Olivia Tsai also placed second in mixed doubles. All players will be competing in the state tournament this Friday at Wilde Lake Tennis Center. 

 

This weekend, Katie Gao, Polly Moser, Amber Fang, and Kristen Lee are traveling to Louisville, Kentucky at the NCFL National Speech and Debate Tournament to represent Centennial High School! They will be competing in Public Forum Debate. Katie and Polly are entering the tournament as District Champions and Amber and Kristen finished 7th in the Baltimore Metro Region. Good Luck to both teams!

 

Jisoo Choi is being awarded for the Sundays at Three Outstanding Chamber Musician Award. She will receive a cash award and season tickets to the Sundays at Three Chamber Music Series. Congratulations!

 

Braden Vaughn, a junior at CHS, was selected to take part in the National Youth Orchestra, which will perform at Carnegie Hall on July 21st, and then go on tour in Latin America this summer, coincidentally under the direction of Baltimore Symphony conductor Marin Alsop. It's a very competitive process to be selected. and all expenses are 100% paid for by Carnegie Hall. Congratulations!
