Athletics News – On-Line Registration for Conditioning is Open!

Optional In-Person Winter Conditioning is scheduled to begin Outside on Monday, November 16th, provided the health metrics adopted by the HCPSS Board of Education are favorable.  Students interested in participating in the voluntary pre-season in person conditioning, MUST must complete the Online Athletic Registration thru HCPSS Connect ( later than November 14th.  ALL Electronic forms are to be completed online, including the HCPSS COVID-19 form. Two documents must be uploaded to the parent portal, the preparticipation physical, dated on or after April 1, 2020, and a recent BGE bill dated no later than October, 2020.

Any athlete who completes their registration after the deadline for Conditioning (November 14th) will still be eligible to participate in winter sports tryouts scheduled to begin December 7th.  Registration for the Winter Season will be open thru December 4th.  This allows us time to create tryout pods.  We will not permit walk-ups to In-Person Outdoor Conditioning nor students who register after November 14th. Once parents/guardians have completed the On-line Paperwork for Conditioning, there is NO NEED to complete any paperwork for winter sports try-outs which begin on December 7, 2020.

Any questions, please feel free to email the Head Coaches below of each Winter Sport being offered. Additional information will be forthcoming.

Athletic Eligibility Update - Winter Season

Due to the extended COVID-19 closure and in order to promote student engagement and well-being, the Board of Education waived the grading requirements for the winter season.  Due to the ongoing changes in the schedule for athletics, HCPSS will also waive the athletic eligibility requirement that students must be enrolled in at least one course at their high school in order to participate on an athletics team. Students who enrolled solely at Howard Community College for the Fall 2020 semester and did not take any high school-based courses will be eligible to participate in athletics, effective immediately.   For seasons that follow, Athletic Eligibility will be determined by the most recent report card before the start of the season will continue to be used to determine a student’s eligibility for participation.

Season Start Dates - The State Board of Education and the MPSSAA has approved December 7, 2020 as the start of Winter Sports Season.

Here are the new start dates:

Winter Sports Tryouts – Starting December 7, 2020

Fall Sports Tryouts – Starting February 13, 2021
