Eagle News:
Centennial It's Academic team achieved its HIGHEST success in school history finishing tied for 9th place from among 304 teams. These 304 teams qualified for Nationals by placing in the top 15% regional tournaments. Centennial sent 3 teams to the National tournament held in Atlanta over Memorial Day weekend.
Although we have finished consistently between 12th and 36th place over the past 4 years, we have never cracked the top 10 barrier. Congratulations to graduating seniors Siri Neerchal (captain), Jason Li, Rohan Laljani, and junior Jakob Boeye on the A team. Centennial also participated in a national tournament on pop culture. We placed 2 of our players as national All-Stars: senior Sahil Saini and freshman Adam Knox
Watch Centennial play its semifinal match against Urbana and Friends School this Saturday, June 3rd at 10 AM on WJZ TV.
We will appear on the championship match for Baltimore Metro on Saturday, June 24th at 10 AM on WJZ TV and the Intercity match at 7 PM that same day.
We won the Baltimore Metro championship, but lost narrowly on the last question to come in second after Montgomery Blair in the Inter city match. Interestingly, we finished better than Blair in the national tournament in Atlanta this past weekend (9th place for us, 15th place for them). Thank you Eric and Sara Seifter
Katie Gao and Polly Moser, co-leaders of our CHS Speech and Debate Team, finished as semi-finalists this weekend at the NCFL Public Forum National Tournament! They are the first ever all-female team to make it to the semi-finals in the history of the tournament!
Look out for the second issue of the Centennial High School Math Journal! This new issue features numerous articles from alumni, an interview with students at UMBC, and an exchange article from the Haverford School in Pennsylvania. Check out the journal online at http://chsmathjournal.weebly.com/online-journal.html, and stay tuned for hard copies of the math journal in the fall!
Danny Hemani was published in "Teen Ink" a national teen magazine. Competition to be published in this print journal is fierce. His article is titled "Great Transformations" and can be read online at http://www.teenink.com/college_guide/college_articles/article/946831/Great-Transformations/
Congratulations Judy Zhou. She submitted an essay, “He, She, It,” to the Spring 2017 YES! National Student Writing Competition.
Judy was one of the three finalists in the high school category which is an awesome accomplishment. The excerpt from her essay was selected to appear in their Literary Gems section on their website where they highlight powerful writing.
Finals are June 9th, 12th, 13th, and 14th.
