Fall and Winter Seasons 2020 (Status) – August 24, 2020

The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association, in consultation with the Maryland State Superintendent of Schools, the Maryland Department of Health, and the Public School Superintendent Association of Maryland has postponed the 2020-2021 high school fall and winter competition season for the first academic semester.

According to information provided by the State, efforts will continue to finalize a hybrid two-semester plan focused on student engagement options in the first semester and modified competition seasons for all sports during the second semester. The MPSSAA plans to make details of this plan available in the weeks prior to the start of the 2020-2021 academic year.

HCPSS is currently organizing a 1st semester, virtual engagement plan, consisting of three seasons, each season given time during the week for engagement (Fall, Winter & Spring). This will allow coaches to engage with kids virtually and give them an opportunity to participate in one or more virtual season(s). This will also help kids connect with their coach and peers and engage in activities guided by the Coach which may include components such as conditioning, nutrition, recruitment, to name a few, that will keep them excited and help prepare them for a gradual return to play by 2nd semester.

For Athletic Eligibility purposes, the most recent report card before the start of the season will continue to be used to determine a student’s eligibility for participation.

A student MUST be enrolled and attend at least one in-person class in their Home School, in both the first and the second semester, in order to participate in a Fall, Winter or Spring Sport.
