On Thursday, January 12th, 98 students were inducted into the National Honor Society.  These students were invited to join NHS after undergoing a selective application process that asked students to demonstrate their embodiment of the four pillars of NHS: character, service, leadership, and scholarship.  Students celebrated with music provided by NHS students and speeches from guest speaker Courtney Watson, Principal Claire Hafets, and their NHS faculty advisers and board members.  Students pledged to serve NHS with character and to continue their commitment to being active members of our Centennial community.  Congratulations to all the new NHS members and their families!

Thank you Ms. Shipp and Ms. Duran (Advisors)

Congratulations! National Academic Quiz Tournaments has selected Centennial High School in Ellicott City, Maryland as its High School Quiz Bowl Team of the Week. Please see the attached Press Release and photo of the teams from the 2016 High School National Championship Tournament.

This past weekend, Centennial sent three teams to the Philadelphia area to compete in the Downingtown Tournament. In a field of 32 teams from the Northeast, the A and B team came out 3rd and 4th, winning a trophy. However, from a statistical point of view, the A team dominated all the other teams in all categories. The performance of both teams garnered the attention of the National Academic Quiz Team (NAQT) organization. They are honoring us as the Team of the Week nationally. We also qualified both teams to compete in all the national tournaments in May and June.

A Team: Siri Neerchal (captain), Jason Li, Rohan Laljani, Jakob Boeye

B Team: Sahil Saini (captain), Emmy Alme, Fayyaz Zaidi, Yashas Lokesh.

While all these players had exemplary performances, special note must be made for Emmy Alme on the B team. She was the 3rd highest scorer out of more than 150 participants. Congratulations!

Four JV Teams participated in a JV tournament at Richard Montgomery High School. Our A team finished 5th reaching the top bracket of the playoffs.

JV A team: Steppan Konoplev (captain), Thomas Luo, Vivek Laljani, and Ben Landrum. Adam Knox and Toby Moser were the highest scorers from the high school (7th and10th place).  Thank you Coaches Eric and Sara Seifter.

Two recent Centennial graduates Clarissa Santori (Class of 2013, now at Northeastern) and Gary Tse (Class of 2016, now at the Naval Academy) both alumni of It's Academic Championship Teams, just completed taping Jeopardy for the College Tournament series in Los Angeles.

Please tune in on February 15 to see Clarissa and February 17 to see Gary in their first round performances on Jeopardy with Alex Trebec. They might have advanced further, but who knows? We'll have to watch.

They are among the 15 finalists chosen nationally for this! Go Eagles…

Superintendent, Dr. Renee Foose visited Centennial High School and spoke with our seniors on Friday, January 13th and had an informative discussion about their high school experiences and their preparation.
