Eagle News:

On Friday, March 3, from 6-9pm in Centennial High’s auditorium the Young Democrats is hosting a sold out TEDx event titled “Get Schooled!” For those unfamiliar, the “x” in the TEDx means that it is an independently organized TED event. Students of the Young Democrats with help from students in the National Honor Society, National Arts Honor Society, and the Music and Theatre departments produce the TED event. The evening will involve 9 student speakers, listed below with their speech titles, and an intermission in the cafeteria with dinner and music from a jazz quartet. The students are very excited for this, and the speakers, who have volunteered, have done a great job in preparing for their talks. It promises to be an insightful evening.

Zach Grossman reported in Wingspan: On February 24-25, 2017, the Centennial Wrestling team competed in the 3A/4A East Regional Tournament. The Eagles started extremely strong on the first day of wrestling after all four wrestlers advanced to the semi-finals the next day. Sophomore Jason Kraisser (138) won with a tech fall 17-1, junior Jacob Blyukher (132) won with a fall, senior Amr Narmouq (160) won with a major 11-1, and lastly, junior Lucas Shapiro (195) won in overtime with a score of 7-5. On the second day of regionals, Kraisser and Narmouq both won in semi-finals and advanced to the finals. Blyukher and Shapiro both had unfortunate losses in the semis and were placed in the consolation bracket.  In the finals, Kraisser pinned his opponent in the second period and became the 3A/4A Regional Champion. Narmouq lost in the finals with a tough 7-5 loss, however, he still advances to States. Overall, the Eagles finished Regionals with Kraisser (1st place), Narmouq (2nd place), Blyukher (5th place), and Shapiro (5th place).

Jason and Amr advanced to 3A/4A State Championship is on March 3-4, 2017 at the Show Place Arena. Go Eagles!

WorldFest is an annual celebration of cultural diversity, which strives to foster cultural respect and awareness in Howard County through education and entertainment. WorldFest celebrates the diverse cultures represented by the Centennial's student body by showcasing the foods, fashions, traditions, and religions that define these cultures. WorldFest guests can dine on numerous ethnic delicacies prepared fresh, learn about unfamiliar cultures from interactive displays and games, enjoy student-produced art; take cooking, dance, and art lessons; and watch a spectacular talent and fashion show. Ticket sale proceeds go to Centennial’s numerous student organizations and towards putting on next year’s WorldFest.  This year, WorldFest will be held at Centennial on Tuesday, March 28th from 6:00-9:00 PM. Students, parents, teachers, and community members from all over Howard County are invited to attend!

Have a great weekend.
