Clothing to Cash

Hey Eagles, it's time to start that spring cleaning!  In the month of February, CHS was once again number two in the county for donations. Let's get back to number one! Clear out old clothes, towels, blankets, it's all good! Centennial collected 1471 pounds, and earned a bonus $50 for a total of $197.10 last month; what can we do this month?  Your help is appreciated!

National Athletic Training Month

The month of March is National Athletic Training Month. This year, the athletic trainer's in Howard County are organizing a donation drive for the month. A donation box is located in the front office.

 

It is for Non-perishable food, personal care items, baby food/diapers that will all go to the Oakland Mills food Pantry. For more information click here.

Guest Form:  Guest forms for non CHS Guest are available now.  Due on Monday, April 8th by 2:10 pm. NO late forms will be accepted.

 

Parents/Guardians of the Class of 2021

The Class of 2021 Board is seeking monetary donations in preparation for senior activities and prom. Your child received a letter, intended for you, detailing the needs of the class board in order to make his or her senior year the best ever! This same letter can be found on Canvas in the announcements section. If you have any questions or concerns please email Mr. Wheeler at thomas_wheeler@hcpss.org.

The Wingspan, the Centennial high school Newspaper, has just published their February issue! College Panel Discussion

On behalf of the RHHS PTSA, you are invited to join us for a College Panel Discussion.  This will address how families can begin to understand the college search and college application process.  There is a right fit for everyone.

 

WORLDFEST

Centennial's annual WorldFest is coming up on April 11th and National Honor Society and the National Dance Honor Society are busy planning for this cultural celebration! Auditions and applications are currently being accepted for students interested in teaching a workshop or participating in the talent show. The deadline for applying is March 15th. Registration for 2019 AP Exams

The registration period for the 2019 AP Exams will begin on 3/4. Students will register for exams using Naviance. Registration is only open to student accounts.  Registration is complete once a signed copy of the survey is submitted with payment. Read more

Ticket Info: Price includes show admission ticket for the 2pm show. Guests will enjoy lunch, meet and greet with the cast, and enjoy fun "Shrek" activities! Limited tickets available. Purchase tickets Online ONLY for this lunch at www.chstheatre.org.

Sales end: Mar 18 or until sold out. Tickets are $20.

Food served: Pizza, (gluten free crust will also be available), Veggies, Fruit, Water, Mud Pie

In April, we will be holding in-school immunization clinics for 11th and 12th graders, offering Tdap, Meningitis, MenB, and HPV vaccinations.  These vaccines may be required or recommended for college entry or employment. The vaccines will be offered at no cost to you. There is no co-pay or deductible. However, we will bill your insurance company, if you have insurance.

NOMINATION SEASON FOR STAFF COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE AWARD.  Now thru Apr. 12.

The CHS PTSA is currently accepting nominations for the 2019 Staff Commitment to Excellence Award.  Each year, this recognition is awarded to a dedicated staff member who has demonstrated a committed and caring attitude toward students and fellow staff members. The winner will receive a $300.00 monetary award and their nameplate will be added to the Commitment to Excellence eternity plaque displayed in the CHS Main Office.  Nomination forms are available ONLINE and in the CHS Main Office.

SAT Course

Another PSAT/SAT/ACT Prep Course has just been added at CHS - starts in April!  Registration is OPEN!

 

DON’T MISS OUT!   Response to our current SAT Prep course has been excellent, so we are scheduling another one this spring.   

 

Register now for our upcoming Spring  PSAT, SAT, ACT prep course (6 evenings), ScoreMoreTestPrep, offered at Centennial High School by Dr. Martha Gagnon and Rebecca Mason.  Dr. Martha Gagnon and Ms. Rebecca Mason have been offering ScoreMoreTestPrep at our school for years and feedback and results have been excellent.  Anyone planning to take the spring tests should consider taking this course.

 

Better test scores mean more college and scholarship opportunities, so don't miss out on this great way to prep for your upcoming college tests!

The Howard High PTSA, along with the Maryland Coalition of Families, Howard and Carroll County Health Offices, is sponsoring the premier showing of Heroin Still Kills at Howard High on March 28th, 6:30-8:30pm.  After the film, there will be a panel discussion/Q&A with a Howard parent who lost her Howard student to drugs, and the cast (not actors, but real young adults who are battling this) and reps from the above organizations.  We are inviting the local schools to join us for this important event ... if you are able, come - become aware, educate/inform, and share with others.



 

Senior Week - Staying Safe in Ocean City: HC DrugFree will offer 2 Senior Week: Staying Safe in OC programs. Adults and all students welcome to hear beach safety tips and beach-related police updates to keep your teen safe. Drive-thru EpiPen, Medication and More Collection: Howard County's next convenient drive-thru collection for over-the-counter and prescription medication and “sharps” (needles, syringes and EpiPens) will be held on Saturday, April 27 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the Wilde Lake Village Center parking lot near the Swim Center and The UPS Store. HC DrugFree and the Howard County Police urge you to clean out your medicine cabinets. Teams, clubs, students, PTAs/PTSAs, families, scouts, etc. are welcome to volunteer at the event and receive community service hours. Conexiones of Howard County

Conexiones of Howard County, a non-profit organization that supports the academic achievements of Latino and Hispanic students,  is proud to announce that the application to the 2019 Conexiones Annual Awards is now open. Conexiones hosts their Annual Awards to recognize Latino and Hispanic graduates from the Howard County Public School System.
