Friday is the last day to order a yearbook with your name imprinted on the cover. May 20th will be the final day to place a yearbook order. We will not be able to order any extra copies this year, so you must purchase now. Books for all underclassmen will be delivered the first week back in September. For seniors graduating in May, books will be available for pick-up in early August.

The Howard County Public School's Fine Arts Program is celebrating
Columbia's 50th Birthday with a student performance at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 4pm. The event will include performances from all 12 HCPSS high schools and will honor Jim Rouse's legacy of community, collaboration, integration, diversity, vision, and human values.
This is a free event, but tickets are required for general admission seating within the Pavilion. All of the general admission Pavilion tickets will be distributed to the schools, HCPSS, and the Columbia 50th organization. There are no additional Pavilion tickets available from Merriweather Post.
The general admission Pavilion tickets will state that all ticket holders must be seated by 3:30pm, with the show beginning at 4pm. Gates open at 2:30pm. Any empty general admission Pavilion seats will be filled prior to the start of the performance. Lawn seating at Merriweather is available and does not require tickets.

PARCC and HSA are state-mandated assessments; therefore attendance is mandatory.
Please ensure that your student is well-rested the night before and that he or she eats a
healthy breakfast. The AM session will begin promptly at 7:25am so please remind your
student that he or she must be in the assigned testing location by 7:25am. Late students
can not be admitted to testing once the assessment starts.
Pre-Prom Safety Week
During the week of April 24th-28th, the Eagle Ambassadors have planned several events
to promote making safe & healthy choices.
Monday, April 24th: GRIM REAPER DAY is a program that is spreading across the
nation promoting awareness about the consequences of impaired driving. A "grim
reaper" (a student dressed in costume) comes into designated classes with CHS Resource
Officer, Marc Carneal. Officer Carneal will remove a pre-selected student who has "killed”
from texting/talking on phone/drinking while driving. Once a student is removed from
class, they will be given a black shirt to wear, and his or her face will be painted white to
represent death. Once the student’s face has been painted, they will return to class and
will remain silent for the remainder of the day.
Wednesday & Thursday, April 26th & 27th: DRINKING AND DRIVING
AWARENESS during all lunch periods. Officer Carneal will be out in front of the school
allowing students an opportunity to drive a golf cart through a simple course while
wearing "drunk goggles". Students need to have a learner’s permit on their person
in order to drive the cart. Students will also participate in a computerized drunk driving
simulation outside of the cafeteria.
Friday, April 28th: Seat Belt Safety Presentation. Janet Bahouth, transportation
safety engineer and HCPD educator, will present to all juniors and seniors during a
special Eagle Time in the auditorium.
Monday - Friday, April 24th-28th: Officer Carneal will bring a CRASH CAR to CHS
which will remain on the property near the traffic light on Centennial Lane for the week.
As Prom season quickly approaches, the CHS Administration and PTSA Late Night
Committee are asking each of you to encourage your son or daughter to attend the CHS
Late Night after prom party and NOT host parties of your own/allow your children to
have parties at home or in hotel rooms. There are plenty of other nights/opportunities
for you to host parties for your student and on this special night we want you to make the
hours after prom all about CHS LATE NIGHT! The PTSA has re-defined Centennial’s after
prom party. There will be tons of food and awesome prizes. What more could you ask for
in the wee hours of the night after prom is over? When our school and community
collaborates on ONE event on ONE special night for our students, there is no greater
sense of school spirit or school pride. In this instance, bigger is definitely better, and the
more students who attend, the more fun they will all have. It is our hope that all
Centennial juniors and seniors will attend CHS Late Night at the Mall, whether they
attended prom or not, so that they can all have a wonderful Centennial evening. The PTSA
Late Night Committee is doing everything possible to make the hours after prom is over
safe and memorable for all students who attend, so please work with us and send them to
CHS Late Night. We ask that you give us JUST ONE NIGHT and make the commitment to
your student and the community to keep everyone safe.
The RISE Conference on Research in Science and Engineering Tuesday evening was
spectacular! There were over 300 people registered. Thank you to students
and staff (Mrs. Bagley)who gave their time to this extremely well organized event!

The County Executive Kittleman will be declaring May 1st as ZACHING DAY. It is a very
exciting day and we are happy that the county has worked with the foundation for this
great cause. We would like to have anyone who has a Zaching shirt to wear it on May 1st,
