Student Parking at CHS

Permission for students to drive and park vehicles on school system property is a privilege. Parking spaces for students at Centennial High School are limited. Accordingly, in order to be granted this privilege, applications for parking permits will be issued on a first come, first served basis to:

  • interested Seniors; and,
  • interested Juniors enrolled in Work Study/Intern Mentor Programs and Dual Enrollment.

   Should additional spots be available following the issuance of permits to individuals described in the above priority list, we will use a first come, first served process to issue remaining permits.

Students are required by the school system to attend a ‘Safe Driving’ presentation with a legal guardian in order to be eligible for a parking permit each year they apply. Each HCPSS high school offers a minimum of two presentations per school year. Students may attend any one of these 24 sessions and must do so each year they intend to drive to school. Attendees are issued participation certificates (or signatures to their applications) that must be submitted with the application. The first presentation will be held on August 15 at Reservoir HS. For a complete list of other dates, locations, and times, click here.

This year, Centennial will host presentations on Wednesday, August 28 and September 11 at 6:30 pm. Doors will close promptly at 6:30. Attendees must be present for the entire presentation - anyone who is tardy will not be admitted, so you are strongly encouraged to arrive early in order to ensure you are able to find parking and make it into the auditorium before the doors are closed. Students who attend without a guardian will not be issued a certificate of attendance.

To apply, students are to submit a complete parking permit application to the front office. Permits will not be issued to students with any outstanding obligations (e.g. fees, books, materials, or equipment).

Parking permit applications are available online or in the front office. Applications must include the following:

  • completed CHS Vehicle Registration and Parking Agreement;
  • completed HCPSS Parking Permit Application;
  • completed Parent-Teen Driving Agreement;
  • verification of attendance at a ‘Safe Driving’ presentation (current school year);
  • copy of a valid Maryland Driver’s License; and,
  • $15 parking fee (payable via cash, check, or Online School Payment receipt - https://osp.osmsinc.com/HowardMD/)

As we become aware of the dates for presentations being offered elsewhere in the county, we will share them with you through our newsletters. You may also find a listing of those dates on the school system website. Students who park on school property during the regular school day without a valid parking permit may receive a fine and/or be subject to discipline. Should you have any questions about this process, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are happy to answer any questions about these requirements.
