Centennial Community,
I’m writing today to give you a quick update and to share some new information.
Schedule Requests:
A few weeks ago, I shared that you would soon be able to review student course requests and that I would email you once that information was available. We all know you haven’t heard from me and I am aware this has been a hot topic on your social media accounts. I’m sorry to have kept you waiting, but the school system is still working out unanticipated kinks. As of this writing, I am told you will have access today, but I’m leery of giving you another false timeline. So, I will only say – once again - that I will write to you as soon as you are able to do view those course requests. Believe me, the sooner you are able to take a look, the better for our counselors. So, know that I will hit send on a ‘go’ message as soon as I am able to do so.
In the meantime, you are still encouraged to reach out to your counselor if you know you will be seeking an adjustment to the courses originally requested for the coming school year. Material Collection for Underclassmen:
It’s finally time for underclassmen to return their materials! Drop-off will be on Tuesday, August 18th in front of the building. In order to ensure a smooth drop-off event, we do have to assign appointment times. Please visit our website to find your appointment time as well as a full list of procedures and Traffic Flow Maps before coming to school. We will be using a simple alphabetical breakdown for ease of planning and to ensure families don’t have to make multiple trips. However, we recognize that some families have work obligations or other limitations to their schedules. The good news is, materials can be returned by anyone! If you are unable to come to the building on the 18th, and can safely transfer your items to a friend or family member to bring to school on your behalf, that would be great! Materials need to be stored and prepared for redistribution for the fall semester. The sooner we can get things back in our hands, the sooner they will be ready to re-issue. So, thanks for making an effort to return your materials next week.
If you have a conflict and simply cannot make alternative plans, please let us know by emailing marie_dow@hcpss.org and we will collaborate with you to make arrangements for the return of your student’s materials. Students who are changing schools should return their materials to the school who issued those materials.
Chromebooks and Technology Requests:
Some of you have sent me messages asking about the process for requesting technology for your student. I am told messaging will be coming from the Central Office in the very near future. So, please continue to monitor your email and to read messages from the Central Office. When I receive that information, I will forward it to you, as well.
New Student Orientation and Back to School Night:
Both of these events will be held virtually on September 3, 2020. Please save the date. Students new to Centennial, including our new freshmen class and any upper classmen new to the Centennial Community, are invited to attend informational sessions in the morning from 9:00-11:30. On the same evening, parents and guardians are invited to visit teachers in a virtual setting from 6:00-8:30pm. More details, including Meet codes and full schedules will be posted on our website a week prior to the event – which is sooner than you think!
Update Your Family File:
I know it may seem silly for me to remind you to update your Family File – especially your email address – in a communication most of you are reading on email. The reality is that many of you read these messages by scrolling through the newsfeed on our website or the HCPSS mobile app. Many are not aware that your email is getting bounced or blocked. So, please, even if you think your information it up to date and accurate, I need you to go to https://www.hcpss.org/connect/, click through your information to the very last page, and hit ‘Submit’. Everyone needs to do this each year. Thanks in advance for helping us to ensure we can contact you as needed.
That’s all for now. Cross your fingers you’ll be hearing from me sooner rather than later.
Wishing you all well,
Cindy Dillon
