CELEBRATE CENTENNIAL:
Got great news about our students, staff, or community? Send it our way and we’ll shout it out!
Congratulations CHS Robotics Team - Exponential 15561, one of the three teams from the Centennial High School FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Club, competed remotely in the FTC Chesapeake District Championship last week and qualified for the FIRST World Championship in August.
Exponential Team: Advait Gunja, Yuhwan Lee, John Liu, Emily Mark, Diego Montemayor, Terra Oh, Mats te Plate, Philip Wang, Eric Zhu.
Exponential qualified for the District Championship by winning the Inspire Award, the award for best overall robot performance and community service. At the District Championship, Exponential received 1st place Connect Award for teaching students from around the country through interactive online STEM activities and for conducting virtual interviews with a variety of STEM professionals. Exponential also had the third highest score in terms of robot performance, being recognized for an innovative turret ring shooter and autonomous programming.
All three Centennial teams (Exponential 15561, Cypher 17464, and VorTechs 18817) have worked incredibly hard since last September to build robots and perform outreach under COVID-19 restrictions. This season has definitely been the most challenging in the club’s four-year history, but it has also been the most fulfilling. Each team member is proud of what they have learned and accomplished and looks forward to involving more students in the fun of robotics. Go Eagles!
As our CHS Speech and Debate regular season ends, we’re ecstatic to say that we have 16 people qualifying for BCFL Metros in 17 events, a huge accomplishment for our team! We are so proud of all of our competitors for their hard work and dedication in their preparation for tournaments. Throughout all 6 BCFL tournaments, the growth within our team has been steady and our performance has been consistently at a high level. Congratulations to everyone!
Starting with Public Forum Debate, the teams of Sunny Gu & Noelle Mitchell, Olivia Ju & Shriya Reddy, Jesse Zong & Rishik Bandakunta, and Matthew Liu & Lucas Yang all qualified. Additionally, Neha Dinesh qualified in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. As a whole, we’ve had more students qualify in debate than any other season in our team’s history!
The number of Speech qualifiers also broke our team record. Emily Xing qualified in both Original Oratory and Declamation. Renee Wu also qualified in Declamation. Additionally, Christly Bright-Agindotan & Jonathan Wu will both be competing in Oral Interpretation. Thomas Lee & Megha Mellacheruvu both qualified in Children’s Literature. Last but certainly not least, Jason Mathew qualified in Impromptu!
Centennial Speech & Debate is excited and ready to compete at BCFL Metros this weekend! We wish all of our competitors the best! Go Eagles!
