Eagle News:

Don’t miss Hello Dolly this weekend! We have over 120 students involved on stage, backstage, and in the pit band. It is amazing entertainment!

The CHS Mock Trial team won its match against Mount Hebron and solidified its place as one of the top 8 teams in the state of Maryland.  We will be competing in Regional Championships the week before spring break.

The students have risen to the challenges of competing over the course of the past eight weeks with tireless efforts and unparalleled sportsmanship.  Please congratulate them on their efforts and wish them luck as we prepare for Regionals!  So proud to be an Eagle!!

Congratulations to Nicole Meister. Nicole wrote about her experiments with solar panels to determine the angle that would produce the most annual energy. She programmed a mathematical model with Java to calculate the amount of solar energy produced at a certain angle and performed several experiments with 10 of her own small solar panels in her backyard. Through both experiments, she found that the optimum tilt angle of solar panels should be equal to the latitude of the location (within 10 degrees). For example, in Ellicott City, the solar panel should be set to 40 degrees to produce the most energy annually because our latitude is 40°." Her article will be published at the Journal of Emerging Investigators.

WorldFest is March 28th

WorldFest celebrates the diverse cultures represented by the Centennial's student body by showcasing the foods, fashions, traditions, and religions that define these cultures. WorldFest guests can dine on numerous ethnic delicacies prepared fresh, learn about unfamiliar cultures from interactive displays and games, enjoy student-produced art; take cooking, dance, and art lessons; and watch a spectacular talent and fashion show. Ticket sale proceeds go to Centennial’s numerous student organizations and towards putting on next year’s WorldFest.  This year, WorldFest will be held at Centennial on Tuesday, March 28th from 6:00-9:00 PM. Students, parents, teachers, and community members from all over Howard County are invited to attend!

Sydney Grossman performed at the Poetry Out Loud Maryland State Finals on Saturday, March 18, at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Please congratulate our CHS band students.  At the HCPSS Band Assessments last weekend, the three CHS bands were awarded unanimous "superior" ratings (the highest rating possible) from the judging panel.  Only five of the 24 bands that performed at the assessments earned this honor, and three of them were from CHS!  It takes a community to build a music program!

The following students will be competing at the FBLA State Conference in Hunt Valley: David Ayliaian, Brian Boone, Ashley Deng, Jordan Fields, Peter Ho, Tingyu Li,

William Liu, Yashas Lokesh, Zain Mannan, Andrew Tseng, Matt Woerner, Alice Xue, and Nick Zou.

For at least the past 10 years, Homewood and Centennial have put together a great basketball game between the neighboring schools.  The teams consist of students from Centennial's Sports for Life classes and from Homewood.

Special thanks to the Mrs. Taylor, Mr. Bossom, and Mr. Emery for all they do to make this game such a success!

Congratulations to all Centennial String Ensemble and String Orchestra members. Both performing ensembles received straight superior "1" ratings from their judges. A lot of hard work was put into preparing for our assessments and it certainly paid off. Kudos to our outstanding musicians!

Congratulations to Philemon Kendzierski on completing the requirements for the rank of Eagle Scout.
