  • On Saturday March 2, Centennial High School welcomed over 400 students, coaches, and parents to the Capital Region Championship for the National History Bowl and Bee. Centennial had already qualified 2 Varsity teams for the National Tournament at a River Hill competition in February..

Our goal on this day was to qualify 3 JV teams to the National Tournament.  And we did! Thanks to ALL of the following Centennial 9th and 10th grade students, we accomplished our goal:

Anthony Duan, Carter Matties, Pingan Tang, Utkarsh Tannen, Jason Chen, Ryan Jiang, Nathan Ho, Isaac Mammel, Adithyaa Nair,  Andrew Zong, Entian Ma, Yash Agrawal, and Regan Malaisamy

Along the way,  3 JV teams made it into the playoffs and the A team comprised of sophomore Anthony Duan on his own (as a one man team) defeated the combined forces of Richard Montgomery, Thomas Jefferson, and Montgomery Blair in the playoffs to secure the championship for JV at Centennial. Anthony also won a bronze medal in the individual Bee competition. The photo shows Anthony Duan with Isaac Mammel (on the left) and Nathan Ho (on the right).

Centennial can now register 2 Varsity teams and 3 JV teams for the National Tournament, an impressive achievement!

Climate Survey

Recent state law requires that all public schools in Maryland survey students about school climate. The purpose of the survey is to gain valuable information about the quality and character of each school’s learning environment so that schools can promote a climate that supports student learning.

Students in grades 9-11 will take the short 30-min. survey during regular school hours during the month of March. The survey will ask students about topics such as student engagement, interactions with adults and with other students in the school, the school environment, bullying, and safety. The survey will not ask about a student’s personal experiences, and students will not be asked to provide any information that might violate his or her privacy.

The survey is confidential and school personnel will not have access to the responses of specific students. The responses your child provides will be combined with the responses from other students in the school, and results will be reported for each school and district.

We are eager to receive this very important information about your student’s school and about schools across the state.
